The province of Alberta recently released the details of its two provincial nominee program draws took place on April 1 and April 14.

These two Alberta Express Entry Stream draws conducted under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), have invited a total of 320 Express Entry candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in 300s to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.

Details of April 1 and April 14 AINP draws

Draw Date Total invitations to apply or NOIs (Notifications of Interest) issued Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of lowest ranked candidate invited
April 1, 2020 120 381 points
April 14, 2020 200 353  points

Introduced in 2018, The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the AINP search the federal Express Entry system for candidates who meet its specific eligibility requirements and invites them to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.

It also provides a pathway to permanent residence for eligible Express Entry candidates with strong ties to the province or who are working in an occupation that supports the province’s “economic development and diversification priorities,” among other factors.

Candidates do not require having any job offers in the province to be invited to apply for a provincial nomination through this Stream. However, AINP generally gives priority to candidates who:

  • have a job offer and/or work experience in the province;
  • hold a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; or
  • have a parent, child or sibling already living in the province

The Alberta Express Entry Stream is also one of the best pathways to obtain permanent residency in Canada for candidates who have low CRS score in the Federal Express Entry System as the AINP has invited the candidates with CRS Point score as low as 300.

Alberta has issued 1,207 invitations to Express Entry candidates so far this year. In 2019, a total of 6,884 invitations were issued through the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Express Entry candidates with a nomination from Alberta, receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score, which effectively increase their chances to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.
