India continues to remain the leading source country of Canada’s new permanent resident (PR) visa holders. The Indian share of Canada’s newcomers has increased significantly in recent years. Around 24 per cent of new PRs in the first four months of 2020 went to Indian applicants.

India is the leading source of Canada’s immigrants for the following reasons. It is the second-largest country in the world in terms of population, which means it has a huge pool of potential immigrants.

It also has highly-skilled population with high levels of English language proficiency, education, professional backgrounds and other key characteristics that help them become eligible for Canadian immigration.
