EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #165: October 14, 2020

Canada conducted another all-program Express Entry round of invitations on October 14 that ties for the all-time biggest draw ever.

Total 4,500 immigration candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in this draw.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement for this draw was 471 points – same as the previous Express Entry draw held on September 30.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied the tie-breaking rule and the time-stamp used was September 1, 2020, at 12:11:23 UTC. This means the candidates who had a CRS score of 471 or more, who had submitted their Express Entry profile before this time and date, received an invitation in this draw.

The IRCC has been inviting 4,200 immigration candidates every two weeks since September 2. However, it has not had a draw of this size since February.

The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the profiles of candidates under three Federal High Skilled economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

Eligible candidates enter the Express Entry pool, where they are issued a CRS score based on their age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

A set number of highest-ranked candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

Canada has now issued over 82,850 to Express Entry candidates in 2020. The large number of Invitations issued by IRCC in recent draws is a strong indicator that Canada remains committed to welcoming high levels of immigrants in the coming years.

IRCC will announce new immigration levels by the end of the month. These levels will give a glimpse of Canada’s admission targets for immigrants in all classes between 2021 and 2023.
