Express Entry Draw #229 –August 17, 2022

Canada issued 2250 Invitations to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency (PR) in a new Express Entry Draw

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a total of 2250 Invitations to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency (PR) to Express Entry candidates in new immigration draw held on August 17, 2022.

This was the fourth all-program Express Entry draw since all-program draws resumed on July 6. Therefore, this draw considered candidates in all Express Entry programs: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades (FST).

The Comprehensive Ranking System score (CRS) cut-off continues to drop. In order to receive an ITA in this draw, candidates were required to have a minimum CRS score of 525 – a decline of 8 points compared to the last Express Entry draw held on August 3, 2022.

IRCC also applied the tie-breaking rule and the time-stamp was set for December 28, 2021 at 11:03:15 UTC. If more than one candidate has the lowest CRS score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their profiles in the Express Entry pool.

Results: Rounds of invitations

  • Draw No: #229
  • Total invitations to apply (ITAs) issued: 2,250
  • Date and time of round: August 17, 2022 at 13:43:47 UTC
  • CRS score of lowest-ranked candidate invited: 525
  • Tie-breaking rule: December 28, 2021 at 11:03:15 UTC

Changes are coming in the Express Entry draws in early 2023

IRCC has confirmed that Express Entry reforms named in Bill C-19 will come into force in early 2023. It will give IRCC the authority to invite Express Entry candidates from the pool based on an economic goal.

Currently, Canada invites the highest-ranked Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residency based on their CRS score. However, the new changes will allow IRCC to conduct targeted Express Entry draws and invite candidates based on factors like their occupation, language abilities, education credential, or other factors that correspond to Canada’s labour market needs.
