The province of Ontario invited 818 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canada PR in latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw held on February 24.
Invitations were issued to candidates under the Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
In order to receive an invitation in this draw, candidates were required to:
- have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 359
- have created an Express Entry profile between the dates of February 24, 2021, and February 24, 2022
- be living in Ontario with a valid work permit
The Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream
The Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream of OINP allows the province to search the Express Entry pool for Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Class and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates, who are presently living in Ontario with a valid work permit.
To be eligible to apply under Skilled Trades Stream, they need to have at least one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work in a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC). Bakers, Contractors & supervisors, Machinists, Welders, Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Heavy-duty equipment mechanics and Crane operators are among those who are eligible to apply under this stream.
While candidates do not need a job offer to apply under the Skilled Trades Stream, they must meet all the mandatory federal and provincial requirements specified by the OINP.
Candidates, who receive invitation for Canadian permanent residence through the Skilled Trades Stream of OINP, receive an additional 600 points towards their CRS score, which effectively guaranteed them an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence through the next Express Entry draw.
