The minimum CRS cut-off score threshold increases by one point to 471

In latest Express Entry draw for immigration to Canada held on March 4, a total of 3,900 candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 471 issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.

In the previous draw, which occurred on February 19, the CRS score cut-off threshold was 470.

The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the profiles of candidates under three Federal High Skilled economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

Eligible candidates enter the Express Entry pool, where they are issued a CRS score based on their age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

A set number of highest-ranked candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied a tie break in this draw and the time stamp used was February 24, 2020 at 06:02:57 UTC. This means that all candidates with a CRS score of and above 471, who entered their profile in the Express Entry pool before the said date and time, received an ITA in this invitation round.

March 4th draw marks the 5th invitation round of 2020 that brings the total number of ITAs issued this year by IRCC so far to 18,700.

Canada’s intends to welcome up to 350,000 new permanent residents by 2021. The country has a target to admit a total of 85,800 new admissions through the three federal high-skilled programs this year, which is further slated to rise to 88,800 in 2021.

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), a portion of which is also managed by the Express Entry system, is another major pathway to obtain Canadian permanent residence. The target for new admissions through PNPs is set at 67,800 in 2020 and 71,300 in 2021.

The candidates, who received invitations in the March 4th draw, now have 60 days to submit their complete application for Canadian permanent residence to IRCC.
