Express Entry Draw #215: February 2, 2022

Canada invited highest-ever 1,070 Express Entry candidates to apply for Permanent Residency in new invitation round

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted the biggest PNP- Specific Express Entry draw ever on February 2, 2022.

A total of 1,070 Express Entry candidates, who previously obtained a provincial nomination from an Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), were invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency in this draw.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement was 674. The CRS score requirement is quite high since immigration candidates, who meet the selection criteria of an Express Entry-aligned PNP stream and successfully receive a provincial nomination invitation, can automatically obtain additional 600 points toward their CRS Scores.

As usual, IRCC applied a tie break in this draw. The time stamp used was February 18 2021 at 05:05:15 UTC, which means PNP candidates with a CRS score of 674 and above who had submitted their profiles in the Express Entry pool before this date and time, received Invitations to apply (ITAs) in this draw.

The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It is an online system used by IRCC to manage and process applications for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents of Canada through three federal economic immigration programs – The Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC).

Since September 2021, IRCC has only been conducting PNP- only draws as these candidates are highly likely to be in Canada already.

IRCC is currently having a backlog of more than 1.8 million immigration applications waiting for decisions.  Although Canada’s Immigration Minister – Sean Fraser did not indicate when Canada will conduct Express Entry draws for FSWP and CEC candidates, internal briefing notes from IRCC suggest that Canada would be able to resume all-program Express Entry draws once half of the current backlogged applications have been processed.

Invited candidates now have 60 days to submit their complete application for Canadian permanent residence to IRCC.
